Joel Laguna - 6th Grade Ancient Civilizations
Hi King Family! I have been at Thomas Starr King MS for 3 years, and a founding member of the Film and Media Magnet. Currently, I teach 6th grade Ancient Civilizations, and also run the Dramatic Arts 101 elective. I am also the Film and Media Lead teacher, so I help coordinate film festivals, electives, and the FAM Student Council. I also am the faculty advisor for the Gay-Straight Alliance and FAM Hikers Club. My favorite thing about teaching is the awesome students I have year after year. My favorite aspect about Film is how it is constantly pushing the boundaries as an art form...and also the gnarly videos my creative students make.

Yvette Rugamas - 6th Grade Ancient Civilizations
My name is Mrs. Rugamas-Polanco and I teach 6th grade history in the Film and Media Magnet. What I love about King is our students. They are engaged, ready to learn, cooperative, respectful, and responsible. Our students take ownership of their projects. It’s a joy to see students become creative with laying out the groundwork to bring their production to life (from transitions, costumes, background...etc).
At King, I especially love the collaboration amongst colleagues to help make our students more successful. I love the wonderful parents who become part of the triad and work along as a team member with teachers in the common purpose and goal to help our child.
